1/25/17 3D Design

Today's Class- Tonight was our first meeting of the semester.  After verifying that everyone was properly on the roster, I reviewed the syllabus.  Then I had the class fill out a survey regarding their artistic interests and backgrounds. which we shared as a class.  Then I used the same form to provide my background.  We also talked a little about studio safety.

Homework- Nothing yet, but we will begin making art next week.

For next class 2/1/17- We will start our first graded project of the semester.  After a discussion of design principles, we will move on to a classic starting project for this class- making three dimensional modules that will eventually form a larger piece.  Those present tonight saw a few examples from last year.  You will need the bristol board (a pad, or at least a few regular size loose sheets if you buy it that way), pencil, scissors or a knife, and glue (white)

Welcome to the Spring 2017 Semester

This is the blog website that I have set up for my art classes at OCC.  This semester I am scheduled to teach one section of three dimensional design (ARTS 186-E01), on Wednesdays 6:00pm to 10:20 pm.    Information for this class will appear in orange text.  Information for anything else will appear in black text.

Each week I will post information about the class, probably later that evening.  There will be a description of our activities from that meeting, including the specific exercise or project we were working on.  When available, images of student examples of those projects (current or previous semesters) will be included to give you a better idea of what is expected and what you can do.  I will also list homework assignments there- what you need to do and when it is due.  I will also include a list of materials needed for the following week.  About a month's worth of posts will appear on the home page, but earlier ones can be accessed using the archive function to the right.

This is not an online class and this blog is not a substitute for coming to class.  Making art is a physical process, and the projects are designed to be done, or started in class.  We have nice big tables and some useful tools.  You will learn more from my instruction and interaction with your classmates than you ever will from a website.  However, if you miss a class meeting for any reason, you can come here and see what you missed. Or if you just need a reminder of when things are due, or what to bring, or want to see examples of how other students did the work.  Most of the questions that students have in these cases will be answered by what is posted here.  It's available 24/7, without having to wait for me to reply to an e-mail.  If you need more information, you are allowed to contact me by e-mail and I will get back to you soon, usually within 24 hours.
